The 4th edition is just out now on this publication. This is a wonderful book designed to educate the consumer on just what should be in a vitamin product. Lyle MacWilliam is a biochemist from Canada that put together a panel of 12 experts in the field of nutritional medicine. These include physicians, biochemists, nutritionists, etc. Each member of the panel selected the amount of each essential nutrient they would like to see in a "perfect" vitamin. They averaged these amounts and came up with a "blended standard" by which a vitamin's quality can now be judged.
The book educates the consumer on what each nutrient does and what body support system it helps such as heart, bones, respiratory, etc. It addresses what nutrients can be too much and how to select a quality vitamin.
The best part of this book it that it took a look at 1500 vitamin products in the U.S. and Canada and then rated them on a "star" system taking in consideration over 10 different criteria by which they were judged. Some include how they are abosorbed, how much of each nutrient, whether or not they support heart health, bone health, etc.
You can see the ratings on these 1500 supplement products and see where your vitamin rates. If it is not so good you can see what other choices you can make to take a better quality vitamin.
I will give you the top four products that received the highest rating of 5 stars and the only"Gold Standard" awards given. The top 4 are Usana Health Sciences, Douglas Laboratories, Creating Wellness Alliance, and TrueStar Health.
The book is availabe at: comparativeguide.com Enjoy!
